Privacy Policy
Ink & Initiative (ink-initiative.pages.dev) · Effective October 1, 2026
Ink & Initiative is a free, fan-made character sheet maker for tabletop role-playing groups. A party shares one Google Drive folder, and each player keeps their character there as a small text file. This page explains what the site does with your information.
The short version
- Ink & Initiative has no server of its own, no user accounts and no database. It doesn’t collect, store or sell your personal information.
- Your characters are saved in the campaign’s Google Drive folder, sent straight from your browser to Google.
- When you sign in with Google, the site can only reach the Drive files it saves for you, or files and folders you choose in Google’s file picker. It can’t see anything else in your Drive.
Viewing a party
Opening a party link needs no sign-in. The site reads the character files in the shared folder using a public Google API key. Anyone who has the folder link can see every character in that folder, so share the link only with your group.
Signing in with Google
Saving or deleting a character asks you to sign in with Google. The site requests one permission, drive.file, which Google describes as “See, edit, create and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this app”. With it, Ink & Initiative:
- creates and updates your character’s file (for example
aria.md) in the campaign folder when you press Save character; - moves a character’s file to the Google Drive bin when you press Delete character and confirm;
- reads a file’s name and last-saved time, to warn you before replacing someone else’s newer changes.
The site doesn’t see your password, email address or other account details. The access Google gives your browser lasts about an hour, is kept only in the open page and is never saved.
Information from Google is used only to show, save and delete your character files. It isn’t sent to the site’s owner or anyone else, isn’t used for advertising, isn’t sold and isn’t used to train AI models. Ink & Initiative’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What stays on your device
The site keeps a few things in your browser’s local storage, so it works the way you left it and still opens offline:
- your light or dark theme;
- the last party folder you opened and the character you last viewed;
- a copy of that party’s character files, for use without a connection;
- play tracking such as current hit points and used spell slots (also written into your character file when you save it);
- which character files you saved from this device.
Apart from the play tracking you save into your character file, this never leaves your device. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes it.
Other services the page uses
- Cloudflare Pages hosts the site. Like any web host, it handles your requests for the page and may keep basic technical logs such as IP addresses (Cloudflare privacy policy).
- Google provides sign-in, the file picker, Google Drive and the page’s font (Google privacy policy).
- jsDelivr serves two open-source scripts the page uses to read and write character files (jsDelivr privacy policy).
- If a character’s portrait is a link to an image on another website, your browser loads that image from that website.
The site has no analytics, no tracking and no advertising.
Removing access and deleting data
- To stop Ink & Initiative from reaching your Drive, remove it at myaccount.google.com/connections.
- Your character files are ordinary files in Google Drive. Delete them there, or with Delete character on the site.
- Clear this site’s data in your browser to remove what is kept on your device.
Children
Ink & Initiative isn’t directed at children under 13.
Changes
